### mr. Guus Bos deceased
[Newsletter Bastion Oranje, May 6, 2003]
Today, May 6, 2003, Mr. Guus Bos passed away. Less than a month ago — recovering from a cervical spine operation — the 61-year-old public prosecutor suffered a stroke [April 7, 2003] from which he never fully regained consciousness.
The Frisian, born in Leeuwarden, was as public prosecutor [since 1973] responsible for, among other things, economic affairs and environmental offenses, and as deputy national officer for tracing war criminals. To the public, he became better known as a press officer. “The problem of [youth] crime lies in the lack of upbringing and the individualization of society,” said Bos.
Decisiveness and punctuality were his hallmarks, both in business and private dealings. But also his — sometimes mischievous — cheerfulness!
Bos began his career as a staff member in the cabinet of the Brabant Queen's Commissioner.
In his secondary ambitions, the tradition-minded Bos was chairman of Musical Den Bosch 800 in the eighties, chairman of the Brabant Chamber Orchestra, in the nineties a member of the church board Parochie Binnenstad, tie-wearer and standard-bearer of De Kikvorschen, board member of Fight for Life [AIDS relief] and advisor to the Dutch bishops' conference.
Although he was a Frisian, Bos felt and was embraced by the Burgundian-Bossche spheres and traditions.
#### Well-being of Mr. Guus Bos
[Newsletter May 5, 2003]
In a report dated May 5, 2003, about the condition of several prominent residents of 's-Hertogenbosch, the worrying condition of Guus Bos was also included: Things are getting worse for public prosecutor Guus Bos. The 61-year-old Bos, who handled press relations and environmental matters, suffered a stroke more than four weeks ago, leaving him partially paralyzed. His situation is worrying. Mr. Bos is still in a comatose state. After intensive nursing in the Carolus, he will be transferred to a nursing home this week.
### Funeral service
In the funeral service in the St. Jan on Monday, May 12, 2003, friend Seth Gaaikema spoke, among others. Chief public prosecutor René Craemer also gave a short In memoriam. Craemer highlighted Bos's merits in the field of environment and economic affairs at the Crematorium in Vlijmen. These were the areas in which he had done pioneering work. Guus was a persistent type.
Mayor Ton Rombouts mentioned Bos's merits and commitment to the city's cultural climate.
### Memento card
On the memento card that brothers Pierre and Rudolf and sister Paula Lingbeek sent to family, friends and relations, the poem below by Jan-Clemens Lampe is featured:
_his eyes_
_inviting challenging_
_questioning and searching_
_were closed_
_to see even more clearly_
_we close our eyes and_
_search for his_
_to cherish the image_
_that is dear to us_

### Vision
As a press officer, Bos was convinced of the positive task of the press to inform the public about the meaning of justice for society. The public must recognize itself in what the judiciary does. Authority must be recognizable, according to Bos in an interview in 1985! This also concerned the distance between justice and citizens.
The Frisian said about the residents of 's-Hertogenbosch that they are very hospitable, charming and cordial, but less accurate in keeping appointments.
's-Hertogenbosch is a city with allure and also a provincial town where an 'everyone knows everyone' atmosphere prevails. That sometimes makes you miss the feeling of freedom.
Bos attributed the increase in crime to a lack of upbringing and the individualization of society. Unemployment also plays a role in these trends. There is too little attention for young people within the family, which leads to boredom, according to Bos.
